JPEG is so much easier than RAW. I don’t have to post process most images beyond simple sharpening–many times not even that. I also found that the automatic correction in my image editing software, COREL Paint Shop Pro, didn’t get the white balance and brightness the way I wanted. I am not nearly as smart as my software, so I invariably make things worse. See KenRockwell.com on color management for a good explanation of what I’m talking about.
So I was just about to eschew shooting RAW entirely when in the mail came an update to Paint Shot Pro called Paint Shop Pro Photo XI.
This version seems to handle white balance and general basic NEF (Nikon RAW) correction much better.
I guess I’l have to keep the experiment going until I have had a chance to play with this new tool for a while. I certainly want all the data the camera captures. I just don’t want to spend days correcting things every time I shoot. Stay tuned.
