Wow!  I just got a new Blackberry because my old one was a couple of years old and had begun to give me trouble.  This new unit can act as a tethered modem using EVDO to connect my laptop to the Internet.  I am writing this post while riding on an Amtrak train!

My daily commute is three hours in each direction.  I sleep most of the way down in the morning, but at night I am awake and have time to kill.  I am hoping that this new device and service frees me to post here more often.

I had been considering getting a PCMCIA card that does the same thing (and has somewhat more bandwidth as I understand it) but the cost for that was $60 per month and this solution is only $15 per month in addition to the charges I was already paying.  I was already using the unlimited data option, so there is no additional cost for this increase in throughput.
